The young Joyce Penelope Wilhelmina Frankenberg (born: 15-02-1951) changed her name to Jane Seymour when she was 17, because "it scanned nicely and rolled trippingly from the tongue".
She began training in dance at an early age, and was just 13 when she made her professional debut with the London Festival Ballet. That same year, she entered the Arts Educational Trust for dance, music and theatre training and danced with the visiting Kirov Ballet at Covent Garden.
Jane turned her attentions to acting and, after a number of successful TV roles, she headed off to the US in search of the bright lights and leading roles. Her film debut was as a chorus girl in Richard Attenborough's ‘Oh, What A Lovely War’ and, after her successful performance in the ‘Onedin Line’, she landed the role of Solitaire in ‘Live and Let Die’.
She studied acting at the Lee Strassberg Institute, and had her first role as a German dominatrix in her school play ROOM SERVICE. She got her first Hollywood starring role in the movie HACKERS. She portrayed the only female in the group capable of reaching elite status in the hacker business. She followed up that initial success with the film FOXFIRE, which is based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates.
While big time film success has so far eluded Jane, her television career is littered with major hits and accolades, such as ‘Jack, The Ripper’, ‘The Richest Man Alive’ and six seasons of ‘Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman’. Indeed, she has long been crowned the "Queen of the Mini-Series".
Jane Seymour has proven her talents in virtually all media, the Broadway stage, motion pictures and television. Her love of art and color has led to her great success as a painter in watercolors and oils and as a designer.
Actively involved in numerous charitable causes, Seymour is a member of the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet and works for Childhelp USA, a national organization dedicated to the research, treatment and prevention of child abuse, as International Ambassador.
